Well...This is Awkward

Post by Adrian Lynd »

As he stepped out of the shower in the gym area Adrian blew water away from his lips as he toweled himself off. A long day of physical training along with dueling had him riding high on a sea of endorphins, but that day hadn't changed the fact that this was not going to be a conversation he was looking forward to but it was a conversation that he needed to have. He quickly got dressed, he of course were mostly athletic wear in the gym and but his pants were the same ones he wore with his robes while at the temple and his twin sabers hung from his belt securely, as he put on his compression fit tank top he was searching for the right words to use that would break the tension and make the situation perhaps just a bit less awkward.

As he turned to exit the shower area he caught himself in the mirror, dark brown pants, skin tight BLACK tank top with his tattoo in ancient Sith clearly visible on his left arm and he sighed as he ran his hand through his still wet hair.

"I look like a damn Sith."

"Yeah you do..."

Adrian sighed as Tristan, a Sentinel about his age, walked by. The two had grown to be something like friends in the past several years, but it had been a slow process as Tristan had been skeptical of Adrian when he initially had arrived at the temple and he had every right to be. Adrian respected his bluntness and his general distrust of the former Sith at first. There was something familiar about feeling like someone was out to get you and ironically enough that feeling with Tristan had helped with Adrian's initial induction into the Jedi order.

"Very helpful as always, thanks. I need to go see Kaytren and talk to her about...don't repeat this, training Nomi..."

Tristan stopped dead in his tracks and turned his head so fast he nearly gave himself whiplash. The Corellian Jedi Knight's dark brown eyes were the size of the death star as he gazed in utter bewilderment at the situation.

"Well. That's interesting. I thought you were done torturing her?"

Adrian let out a half a laugh at not only what Tristan said and how he said it, but his body language was equally as funny. This was going to be more than an awkward situation.

"Yeah well, she came to me and....well I've been wanting to train her because...well you've seen her she's good. I just wasn't going to go out of my way to recruit her, but she came to me...so now it's fate I think. I didn't say yes or no, I just said we both needed to think and I needed to talk to Kaytren."

Tristan walked towards Adrian and patted him on the left Arm, right on his tattoo as a matter of fact. He grinned at the ex Sith and Jedi Knight.

"Well sometimes I think you Sith were right about certain aspects of the Force, it certainly can be cruel. I don't envy you, but you'd be good for her but you really need to get some proper robes on before talking to Kaytren. You two aren't close and you going there in a black tank with Sith tattoo on full display, given your past isn't probably the best first impression if you're trying to be respectful. I've got a class to train, let me know how it goes..."

Tristan smiled at Adrian and shook his head as he turned and walked away.

"Definitely change clothes..."

Adrian sighed and nodded, the two had a decent non-verbal rapport with each other and even though Adrian didn't say it, the thanks was implied. He glanced at himself in the mirror again and took a breath. Fine, he'd go change, maybe that would help. As the twenty seven year old Jedi Knight walked towards his room and opened the door, the lights kicked on, his rooms, they were spartan in nature and barely decorated. A few personal items but nothing overly impressive. He walked towards his closet and pulled out a tunic and cloak and quickly put them on. He looked at his comm on his wrist and checked to see if Kaytren was off duty and home. That worked out perfectly, better to drop this information bomb on her when she was at home and could focus on it. He nodded to himself quietly as he checked himself in the mirror again, his dark brown hair still a bit damp, but that wasn't a problem, at least he looked like a proper Jedi now, the biggest irony of them all.

He walked towards his kitchen and grabbed two Muja fruits off the counter and walked out the door. He casually made his way down the expansive hallways and finally towards Kaytren's home, not a destination he had made a habit of visiting, but he knew where it was. He wasn't nervous and his body language came off as casual as he tossed the fruits back and forth, their paths crossing in mid air, barely missing each other. As he approached the door he stopped with pseudo juggling act and knocked as the door opened. There she was standing there in the doorway, his mind took him back over the last few hours and he almost turned around right there.

"Hey, I think we need to talk...Muja fruit?"

As she invited him in he walked in and tossed her the fruit casually. She could eat it now or save it for later, he really didn't care. It was a distraction for him anyway and he was stalling. Should he just come out and say it? Yeah, he probably should just get it over with sooner rather than later, after all it wasn't every day or ever that he visited her in her home.

"Nomi came to see me a few hours ago, we talked and sparred, and she asked me to train her, I didn't say yes or no. I did want to talk to you first, I asked her to give me a day or so and told her to think on it too."

There it was, out in the open. Adrian cracked the knuckles in his left hand by flexing his fist. As he maintained eye contact with her, and kept his demeanor cool.

"I don't know what you think of all that."

“Adrian, hello. Please come and sit down.”

The unspoken surprise on her face was evident as the Healer dipped her head in greeting and motioned him in from the doormat toward the living room. They had dwelled among the Jedi together for most of a decade now—and she was unimaginably thankful for that—but still, it had been a few years more than that since the last time Svo’k Lynd’s oldest son had stepped into her home. There were signs of her family’s things of course; including her younger daughter’s, but all in all the living room itself was the same simple plant-filled living space with two couches.

Kaytren caught the muja fruit absently in one hand and set it down, her quiet brown eyes watching Adrian. Without pausing to think about it, she went to the counter and poured an earthenware cup of fresh Corellian caf from the server. Her favored cream and tang bark were still out from when she’d prepared hers a few minutes before, if he found that he wanted them. She wasn’t going to make a point of it either way.

The barefoot healer set the warm mug in his hand, and returned to her own sofa corner where her evening mug of coffee and a datapad were still on the table. And she listened.

Of course Nomi had.

Somehow even though she didn’t intend to, she still found herself going still. The world blurred into misty tunnel vision at the edges, and she found Adrian’s voice distant with the shush of blood pulsing through the tiny veins past her eardrums. Kaytren's eyes dropped away to look at the floor, and she swallowed. She looked look up at the taller young Knight with the twin lightsabers at his waist, and the serious look in his face... who she was... so unimaginably proud of, and relieved beyond words for... But, still.

Her right hand twisted softly around her left. She breathed out through her nose.

“Well then. I think…. That’s not.. the most fair, Adrian. But what do you think about it?”
I will not be made useless. I won't be idle with despair. I will gather myself around my faith, for it's Light the Darkness most fears.
