The Crossing

Pupils dilated, as red eyes stared into the Jedi eyes beneath him, breath escaping the sixteen year old youth and falling on the face beneath him. The burning pain in his heart intensified and then there was peace, often brought with it by death a sensation that the Sith had never known and only knew now for a fraction of a second. Red eyes changed before the Jedi beneath him. Red eyes were blue, fixated and staring into the soul of Derry, whose brilliant white lightsaber blade was sticking out of of the upper left part of Adrian's back, clearly it had passed straight through his heart.

The background faded, the Jedi was gone, the rooftop disappeared beneath him and he was free falling. For a few moments he was unaware of this sensation, there was nothing for him. Then the pain came, the burning sensation through his chest where the lightsaber was a moment ago. Darkness enveloped him as he fell deeper and deeper into the chasm that took the place of the building that was there just moments ago. A gasp for air and nothing entered his lungs, instead his eyes fluttered open, taking in what was left of his surroundings, the black void that surrounded him, he was still falling, the feeling in his stomach told him so, but nothing made sense, there was a building and there were the single Jedi, what had happened to all of it? That pain, the piercing and burning pain in his chest what was it and where did it come from?

He tried to take in another breath, yet nothing. Nothing again, how was he not taking in the air how was...it felt like he was suffocating, surely he would soon if he could not get good solid helping of air into his longs. Then out of nowhere the falling seemed to slow, the sensation decreased and then there was a thump as he crashed into hard into the blackened ground. The impact made him taste blood, a taste that he had known all too well, a taste that made him sick. He struggled to his feet and reached for his weapons but they were gone. His eyes scanned the horizon, there nothing but the ground beneath his feet and the darkness that continued to envelope him. Wait, there was a light? He craned his neck and brushed his hair away from his eyes and looked straight up. Far above him there was the morning sky, the place from which he had fallen. His nostrils flared as he took in the scent of a morning storm. The lightning? It must have been, the smell was like ozone. His chest still hurt, the burning. He gritted his teeth and rubbed his chest with his left hand, the pain intensified as the tips of his fingers sank into the open lightsaber wound. He looked down confusion in his eyes, the tips of his fingers had traces of a mixture of burned and fresh blood on them. What?!

He again tried to take in a breath, but still there was nothing, nothing at all. His eyes darted from side to side in a state of near panic. Where exactly was he?

Pain.

Shot through every single fiber of his being as he dropped to his knees and fell face down in a warm sticky substance that seemed to to be flowing at a rather alarming rate. Again he gasped to for breath but instead drew in the liquid, which he immediately spat out, he rolled over retching in disgust and agony from the pain. He forced his eyes open and that's when he saw it, the wall. The river of blood that was flowing from the wall. Weren't their two rivers? He thought to himself, this was Korriban this was the Tomb that he had traversed, but it couldn't be, there were two rivers there, one of water and one of blood. They ran under the wall, and he never did figure out how to get past to the wall. His eyes widened, as this was clearly the same place the other side of the wall. But how did he get here?! He had to follow the river, follow it to it's source. There was force ghost, or a force demon whatever you wanted to call it, it was there in the tomb, it had congratulated him on getting as far as he did and it had dared him to go further, but not to follow the blood, it seemed like it might be too late for that, all that was left was the blood. He fought through the pain and stood up, but there was as sound. A faint sound coming from above, the sound of newborn crying. The sound caused his lightsaber wound to pulsate in pain which sent fire through all of his nerve endings, it wasn't stopping. He closed his eyes and grit his teeth again, the tears from above seemed to trigger whatever...wait.

"Did I die?"

He looked down again at his chest, the pain went clear through to his back. That was a wound that was not survivable. Now that he thought about it for a second, he was not conscious of his own heart beat, and he certainly wasn't breathing, he had tried that countless times.

"I followed the blood."

He heard the cries of the newborn from above again and nearly dropped to his knees in agony. He clenched his hands and fought through, he remain standing. The blood, he had come this far despite the warnings, which made sense now as he had to die to get past the wall. He continue to follow it, he had it see where it was going. What did he have to lose at this point anyway?
