I'm Sick of This

Post by Svo'k Lynd »

He wasn't getting any younger, forty one the day after tomorrow as a matter of fact. His job wasn't actually the pinnacle of safety and longevity either, Jedi Guardians were not known for being the longest lived of the Jedi classes. Take that into consideration along with the years of abuse he put his body through as a young man both with substances and dancing with the Dark Side of the force and he wasn't entirely sure what his life expectancy really was anymore.

He moved down the hall quickly, he stopped at the door and took a long around, no one in sight. Not that it mattered, among his main job he worked in Temple Security as well, an ex-Sith had some ideas about how attacking the temple might go and being Harper's former Padawan and current friend carried with it some advantages in this situation. He looked down at the keypad and smirked. He had an override code that was to be used in the case of emergency's or what have you, he was a Jedi Knight and for all intents and purposes had long ago proven his trust worthiness, so a bending of a rule was not something that was going to earn him more than a minor slap on the wrist at this point. In fact he was relatively sure that while Kaytren would probably not approve of his methods per say, if it worked the ends would definitely justify the means and she would probably roll her eyes at him like the other classes tended to do when Guardians did Guardian things...he had flat out told Erril what he was going to do and he did get a bit of eyeroll from him but he still took Zhi...plus he brought a peace offering. A cup of perfectly brewed tea steamed in his left hand.

As he paused for another half second he heard a voice off in the distance

("Rules aren't for ex-Sith either...")

Svo'k nearly started laughing as he punched in the override code.

("Thanks for the encouragement brother...")

("That's what I'm here for.")

The door slid open and the lights automatically turned on in the room as part of the emergency protocol system. Svo'k had never been invited here before but he knew the layout of every Jedi room in the temple, it was part of his Job. He turned left down the hall and set a cup of tea down on a small table in the hall, he then moved quickly down the hall towards the bedroom at the very end. He approached the bed and ripped the blankets off of the occupant in a swift manner, he grabbed the left arm of the half-sephi....his son and pulled him out of bed.

"Get up, Luka! You and I are going somewhere....NOW."

The Jedi Knight said sternly and extremely assertively. He had walked eggshells around Luka for years but Luka was a Jedi Knight now with a Padawan and he was too damn good of a Jedi to carry a grudge with him.

"It occurred to me earlier today that I outrank you as far as time in rank is concerned and whether you like it or not, that's a fact. I've seen your schedule today too, you're off and Erril has Zhi thanks to me. There's tea on the table in the hall, you can shower when we get to the ship..."

He quirked an eyebrow realizing that Luka slept shirtless, not something he expected from a man who was as proper as Luka was.

"You...sleep like that? I don't know that I ever thought about it, but....that's surprising."

Luka had been fast asleep, it had been a long day in the infirmary and he had entered the deepest stages of REM sleep just a few moments ago. An empty and beautiful mug sat on his night stand once held the most perfectly prepared cup of chamomile tea with just a dash of honey that the universe had ever seen. Chamomile had become a end of week treat for Luka who always had himself a steaming cup of it after a long successful week of training with his Padawan and working in the infirmary. So when Luka had drifted off into his peaceful sleep, his plan was to sleep a bit later in the day than normal, likely waking up at 0700 or somewhere in that vicinity instead of two or three hours earlier. He had not set an alarm and had fully intended to enjoy his day off. He had planned to take Zhi with him to the Coruscant Medical Library at the University and introduce him around to some of the non-sensitive doctors on world. It served a purpose, but it was also meant to be a bit of a surprise for his Padawan as well.

Then his ears twitched as he heard something down the hall but his exhausted brain did not detect a threat per say and the force knew he was not in danger and thus did not feel the need to warn him. Perhaps Ashla knew exactly well what was being planned and knew it was good for him. He didn't notice the lights on as he had his comforter pulled up over his head.

Then the covers flew off and he felt a strong hand grab his arm and yank him out of bed. His eyes flew open immediately, the light stinging them as his pupils constricted. A surge of adrenaline shot threw him trying to counteract the chamomile tea still in his system. He shook his head and yanked his arm away from Svo'k as he began to talk, his eyes narrowed slightly.

"Svo'k?"

The adrenaline wasn't needed, but it was still there as his body realized it didn't need to be in fight or flight mode at the moment.

"...what the....what time is it?"

His ears had perked up at the word tea, Svo'k wasn't good at making it at first but he had come a long way so Luka had heard through the other tea loving Jedi at the temple...some of the more coffee minded Jedi called them a cult, which Luka found to be mildly humorous...if not true on some levels.

"Without my shirt? It's comfortable and I've done it since I was a kid...not that you'd know."

"It's 0217."

Svo'k said shortly and moved towards the closet and pulled out some fresh robes for Luka as if he had been in here before which he of course had not.

"Yeah well, we've both made mistakes at this point. I made the initial ones and they were big ones, no doubt. Trust me, there is plenty of shame and regret there, but you've made a few as well.."

He handed the robes to his son, the young healer that he was so proud of. He offered him a bit of a smile even if this whole situation was a bit forced and awkward. He just didn't see a way around that though, he had tried the nice and soft spoken approach with Luka and that had not gained him much of anything. They were cordial with each other but they were not close at all and if that's the way it was going to be forever, then that would be whatever it was but he wasn't going to try and change that if he could.

"Get dressed your tea is getting cold, plus we've got a decently long flight."

Svo'k walked out of the bedroom to give Luka some privacy to change, not that it was really needed but he had literally just broken into his home and pulled him out of bed in the middle of the night. He shrugged, no need to regret anything about that he had made his decision and he was at peace with it.

Luka blinked and rubbed the sleep out of this eyes.

"0217...Don't ex-Sith sleep?"

Luka said as he cleared his throat and ran his hands through his hair. What was going on? He was having a pleasant night's sleep after a strenuous day and now he was being rudely awakened, bribed with tea, and told his Padawan was off with another healer without his consent. He exhaled through his nose with a bit of annoyance as he took the robes from Svo'k. He tossed them on the bred and retained his tunic in his hand and slid it over his head.

He slid of his pajama bottoms and replaced them with his brown pants and sat down on the edge of the bed. Cold tea was a sin, so he had to hurry up, he pulled his boots on and fastened them a bit more loosely than he normally would if he was going to be in them all day, but his plan was to get on the ship drink his tea and take a shower and if Svo'k was feeling gracious maybe he could sleep a bit more. Why was he agreeing to any of this? He could say no, he glanced down the hall at the Jedi Guardian and ex-Sith and wondered if he actually could say no.

He didn't exactly know that he wanted a relationship with his father but he did know that he had been a bit insufferable about the whole thing himself. He had heard what Svo'k had said about there being mistakes on both ends and if he was being truly honest with himself, screaming at Svo'k just after Adrian had died was not his brightest shining moment as a Jedi but it was one that he lived with.

He stood up and pulled his belt on and clipped his lightsaber to it. He grabbed his cloak and threw it over his shoulders, then retrieved a small bag from the closet pre-packed with toiletries and a couple of pairs of socks and underwear. He then grabbed his medical bag and slung it over his shoulder, moved down the hall and grabbed the cup of tea. He moved the cup to his nose and the aroma was pleasant enough, he cautiously took a sip and smiled instantly as the warm liquid rolled across his tongue and moved down his throat.

"Okay Svo'k, that's good tea. That makes up for breaking into my home and pulling me out of bed...so where are we going?"

"Yes I sleep you and I need to have a bit of a chat."

Svo'k raised his voice only slightly because he was well aware of the Sephi hearing abilities even though he was in a different room. The Jedi knight glanced at his wrist comm on and then back down the hall to see Luka fully dressed sipping the tea and toting with him two bags. Well that was quick he thought to himself, then there was something he wasn't expecting...a complimentary comment regarding the tea, coming from Luka that was high praise. Svo'k smiled at the younger Jedi and shrugged.

"Trial and error, lets go....I'll tell you on the ship."

Svo'k opened the door once again and disabled the emergency lighting and let Luka leave the apartment first. He then matched stride with his son and walked fairly swiftly through the temple's expansive corridors until the two of them found themselves at the main hangar. Svo'k made his way rather deliberately to a small transport shuttle that had already been prepped for flight by the waiting droids who were apparently arguing with each other about the optimal cabin temperature for the small crew.

[[Master Lynd. The ship...uhhh...is....ready for take off...Cabin temperature is set to 20....]]

The other droid immediately piped in

[[No! 21!]]

The second droid quickly adjusted the settings and the other ripped the datapad from his metal hands and changed it back.

"You two are going to break it, besides 24 is optimal for where we are going."

The droids both groaned in defeat and changed the setting again. Svo'k patted them on their metal heads and walked up the ramp into the shuttle. His bag had already been placed in the main lounge area. He made his way to the ladder and climbed up, Luka setting his stuff down next to Svo'k's and following Svo'k up the ladder to the cockpit, once there Svo'k took his place in the pilot's seat and motioned for Luka to sit down.

"Lets see if they forgot anything."

Svo'k scanned the readouts and instrument panel and frowned.

"Mind hitting the inverters Luka?"

The younger Jedi nodded and the landing ramp quickly retracted and all lights indicated the cabin was holding pressure, Svo'k turned a knob that slightly adjusted it to compensate for their destinations slight difference in atmospheric pressure, it would give them time to adapt before getting there.

"Dehumidifiers on...and we're ready."

The ship lifted off and made the delicate turn towards the doors, angled up slightly the engines powered up knocking both of the droids over with the force of the plasma exiting out of the twin nozzles. In a few minutes they were in space and Svo'k punched in the coordinates and engaged the hysperspace engines and then set the autopilot.

Finally he could relax, he unfastened his seatbelt and spun his seat over to face Luka.

"We're going to Tattooine, there are some things I want to show you and it'll give us time to talk about some things."

Luka had finished his tea as he was climbing into the ship as Svo'k patted the droids on their heads. Luka sort of wondered why the droids hadn't been replaced yet or re-programmed. They were constantly worrying about non-flight essential things like the cabin temperature, he chuckled at the thought of them forgetting something like putting fuel into the ship for example because they were worried about the comfort of the passengers.

Where did the temple get these droids?

He wondered to himself, still feeling a bit groggy but he was a Jedi and the tea caffeine in the tea was starting to go to work anyway. So much for sleeping on this flight. He sat down and buckled himself in, flipped the switch for the inverters at Svo'k's request.

"I'm waiting for the day where they argue about the snacks and forget to turn anything else of any real value on in the ship at all."

Luka chuckled quietly to himself mostly as the ship lifted off and in his side mirror he saw the droids fly back and smash against the ground. He shouldn't find it funny, but he did, maybe it would knock some sense into them or better yet, cause them to need a bit of a re-programming. To their credit the ship was a comfortable albeit warm 24 degrees even when Luka looked down at the temperature readings as they exited out of the atmosphere of Coruscant. He watched Svo'k punch in the coordinates but Luka couldn't quite make it out, quickly enough. For a moment he was thrown back in his seat as the ship made the jump to hyperspace. This thing had some power behind it, he hadn't ridden on this class of shuttle before so it was a foreign experience to him.

Then Svo'k spun around...these seats spun? Luka found a lever on the right side of his seat and pulled it up. There was a click and soon he spun to face Svo'k as well. The older Jedi Knight had a somewhat serious look on his face when he spoke.

Tattooine? What was on Tattooine? Nothing good was there at least not from what Luka had heard. Maybe he was still somewhat annoyed from being pulled out of bed in the middle of the night, maybe it was the thought of being alone with Svo'k for an entire day...but his next words were not his best.

"Ah, it's finally happened. You're taking me to a brothel...not interested."

Luka gave Svo'k a somewhat serious look and then realized that his filter had slipped a bit and he was being quite rude. He let out a sigh and rain his head through his long blonde hair which had not been combed.

"I'm sorry, that was uncalled for."

He had been perfectly content with the level of conversation that they were having up until this point, not that it was much of a conversation, just tasks. Luka had a made a comment about the competence level of the droids and Svo'k had offered him a slight laugh in reply, he was in fact in total agreement about the droids and wondered if they were a safety hazard more than anything else.

As he had explained the destination and his partial intent to Luka, he watched the younger Jedi's body language and his quick retort and apology after he spoke. The words had the potential to cut deep, but in fact they didn't at all. In fact quite the opposite, the elder Knight found them to be quite funny to the point that he had to bite his tongue to keep from bursting out into a fit of laughter.

"I mean...I don't know that it was totally uncalled for Luka, but that wasn't exactly what my plan was."

He scanned the half-sephi up and down.

"If that's what you wanted to do...fine. I'm willing to try anything to fix this but that's a bit far and you look like you could do alright on your own without paying for that sort of thing."

He smirked at his son and stood up.

"Also, it's not uncalled for because...well I did go to those places when I was a Sith, I was even......on the opposite end of the transaction to support some of my more nefarious habits."

Svo'k rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.

"I'm not proud of any of it, but that's what happened and you're getting nothing but total honesty from me on this trip. So...unless you want to hear more about that. Breakfast sound good? We've got a bit until we get to Tattooine."

Luka crossed his arms in front of him. He wasn't sure what the reaction he was going to get from his comment was but the last thing he expected was a laugh. The young Knight scanned Svo'k for a moment he was trying to understand the elder Knight's body language, if he was honest he never really cared before or took the time to look at Svo'k thoughtfully the way he had looked at so many others. As a consular he was often the voice of reason, the steady hand in a storm when others were clamoring for lifeboats he was the one indicating that the ship actually hadn't taken on any water yet.

With Svo'k however, he had been happy to watch him stumble around tripping on himself to be nice to Luka. His blue eyes found the floor for a second as Svo'k had spoken to him. He felt the smallest smile tug at the corner of his lips when Svo'k mentioned he'd do anything including taking Luka to a brothel if he so desired to fix this. Of course the half-Sephi healer had absolutely zero desire to visit a place like that for any reason. He supposed that there would be medical reasons he could find himself in a place like that, but that was quite literally the only reason he could think of.

As Svo'k spoke it came as zero shock to Luka that he had visited a place such as that in the past, but what did come as a bit of a surprise to him was that he had provided services so to speak for payment. Luka kept his face calm as he watched the man that was of course his biological father stand up and awkwardly rub his neck.

"You do not owe me an explanation, I know who you were and I know you're a good Jedi."

Luka stood up, the two men standing facing each was an interesting reflection of who they were. Svo'k standing there in brown Jedi robes strong and confident, with his Sith tattooed hands by his side, scars visible on his neck and a few smaller ones on his face. He had lived a rough life and that was clear. Luka on the hand stood about the same same hate, his face was clean minus a small amount of coarse blonde stubble not having shaved yet today, his hair was a bit ruffled having just woke up, but his expression was soft, it's not that he was not strong and confident, but his demeanor was not nearly as imposing, which in the right situation made him more of a silent threat than Svo'k. Luka was not a fighter by trade, but he could carry his own weight if he had to.

"Breakfast sounds good, if you don't mind I'd like to shower and shave."

He looked into Svo'k's blue eyes and saw something unexpected, he saw the same eyes that he saw in the mirror every morning, Svo'k's had more behind them, more depth and past trauma but they were the same on so many levels, there was a sense of soft care and empathy behind them. For the first time in his life he felt a bit of sympathy for who Svo'k was as a person, but he wasn't going to say anything.

"Eggs and perhaps juice? That is of course assuming that the droids did not put hydrospanners in the galley instead of food."

"I knew you liked eggs, so I brought some, the incompetence of the droids was not going to get in the way of a good breakfast."

Svo'k smiled at Luka's comments, he wasn't sure how much they meant to him in the moment. If Luka knew he was a good Jedi, well good was a strong adjective, Svo'k considered himself a decent Jedi but if others considered him good he was not about to argue with them, especially Luka whom he had sort of thought hated his guts. This was progress at least, Luka didn't hate him, not outright anyway. Svo'k nodded and slid down the ladder, his hands gripping the sides but he never touched a single rung, just like a true Guardian. He landed and his knees absorbed most of the shock, he looked up at Luka who had smirked at the Guardian behavior. Svo'k smiled back and walked towards the galley and went looking for a frying pan. He opened the cabinets near the stove, where logically a frying would be instead he found a carton of dubiously warm milk and arched an eyebrow.

"Not drinking that."

He then moved over to the other cabinets searching high and low for the frying pan and came up empty handed. He sighed heavily rolling his eyes. He then turned to the refrigerator to get the juice out and ready at least. When the door opened and the light came on what he found baffled him. Sitting on the bottom shelf was the carton of juice placed neatly in the frying pan, he raised both of his eyebrows in unison and looked up and saw a batch of eggs still in their shells sitting in a pitcher unbroken on the top shelf. He let his hands fall by his side and let out a long sigh.

"You should really see this, it's ridiculous even by their standards..."
