Rik awoke with visions of familiar faces in unfamiliar places still hovering in his mind. A great wedge of a warship floating in space, cloaked in malevolence yet foresight as well tickled at his consciousness while loved one's lives hung in the balance. And then, like a flash, a very different ship in a very different place. It was darker. No lights, no stars. Still, the design was similar. Angular lines and rows of focused armaments. A newer design perhaps. But it was dead. Cold. Dark...And then...
From the depths of this seemingly lifeless vessel, life!
All Rik could see was darkness but then that darkness fled before the radiance of two crystal blue eyes, piercing in intensity and radiating such gravitas and will that nothing could stand in its light.
Rik opened his eyes.
His visions fled. All except the very real feeling that something old and powerful had awoken.
And it was watching him.
